Let’s go over the basics
So, vaping is a lot like an electronic cigarette. It’s made up of three essential components, the battery, atomizer, and cartridge. Let’s take a look at them a little bit closer. The battery piece is the most obvious to get. It keeps your vape charged and ready to use. Most often, it’s rechargeable, but there are disposable options out there as well. You’ll hear the term “mod” a lot in the hobby. A vape mod refers to different types of batteries and power levels that can change the vaping experience.
The atomizer is where the fun science starts. Using the power from the battery, the atomizer generates heat to warm up a metal coil. The coil is often made from nickel, stainless steel, or titanium. The type of wire used determines how much power is drawn from the battery and how long you can do in between charges. The element heats the liquid so it can be inhaled as a vapor.
Lastly, the tank or cartridge. This is where the e-liquid is held before it’s transformed into a vapor. Cotton or another wicking material absorbs the liquid so that it will come into contact with the atomizer.
Types of e-liquids
Often referred to as vape juice, e-liquids, or e-juice. They all contain three main ingredients: nicotine, flavoring, and propylene glycol, or vegetable glycerin. However, the difference between different brands and flavors of juice will be the amount of nicotine. So, a higher percentage of nicotine means that each hit will be more intense than a low percentage juice.
